Zander Bar is a bar located in Buckingham Gate, St James/Westminster. It adjoins the impressive 100-year-old St James hotel (now a Crown Plaza). The contrast between the two places could not be greater – large grand wood panelled open spaces in the hotel and small tightly packed drinking compartmentalised areas with low ceilings and lighting to match in the bar.
Zander Bar, also known locally as ‘Zanders’ boasts a very very long narrow bar along which drinkers can sit on bar stools. The rest of the area broken up into cosy drinking areas – some of which can are often closed of for private functions. Away from the bar, seating is a mixture of sofas and small round chairs. The bar is popular for local workers wanting to down a bottle of wine and eat some reasonable food. Early evenings are very busy as drinkers flock here from the local offices to create some of buzz in an area that lacks evening life. Zander Bar has a loyal following for clients who are not too worried about the cost of a round, which can be pricy.
Overall – not a place for beer drinkers or the office party – but very good for the wine and cocktail set and small groups. Lunchtime food is very good – but avoid early evenings is you don’t like smoking as the lack of large open space make it hard to breath clean air.
There is a restaurant located at the rear of the bar that is called Bank 45 Buckingham Gate, London, SW1E 6BS
