Currently the web site is only open to friends and family until the content grows.
We will however consider opening content editor accounts for people who have a good track record elsewhere and have something to contribute. If you have found this site useful, then why not put something back in.
Everybody's opinion is of value.
Notes for contributors The Joomla system lets you create news items that you can attached to a section and then a category. There are two parts to the new items in the editor. The content in the top box will be shown as the lead for the story. The second part gets shown together with the first page when the use clicks on the more link to read the whole story. Bear this in mind so that you can have introduction text in the first box and more detailed stuff in the second.
Keep the size of images down. Best to create a top level folder for your own use and then create sub folders inside to keep things tidy. The whole image upload facility is a bit awkward as only administrators can do it through the backend, and not through the frontend publishing route that contributors use. You may have to send me the images for me to upload. Technical Notes
If you are a Mac user, you will have to use Firefox for content management. The WYSIWYG editor currently doesn't seem to work well with Safari. Adding content and formatting The content system is broken down into top level Sections (such as Food and Drink, Entertainment and Shopping) and Categories which belong to a Section (i.e. within Food and Drink the categories are Restaurants, Bar and so on). Keep the title fairly short, as long titles will push the content body across to the right a spill out over the boundaries. When you create a new content page assign it to a Section and then to a Category. Best to decide where you think the new page should go before starting. You will get used to it all pretty quickly.
A standard approach should be used when adding content. For adding reviews of bars and restaurants start the title with the town/city name then a colon and then the establishment's name and possibly the type, for example Bournemouth: Oriental Express, Chinese restaurant If not in the UK you can take the format <country>, <town/city>: <establishment>, <quick description> Then in the body, start with the address details, telephone number and web site, if available. This way, everything can be neatly sorted for display and quickly found. Make use of the Meta Data tab to add a short and relevant description, and a few keywords. Ideally these should use words that you have entered into the body. This will (or may) help with search rankings and descriptions. Publishing Options Please do not select the option to public onto the frontpage. I aim to leave that as a general home/welcome page and keep content articles from it.
Inform and Recommend One of the aims of the web site is to give honest information and recommendations from your experiences. Please be clear in your approach and avoid any libel or slander. Profiles Check out the present hairy bunch of reprobates on the Profiles Page .
