I generally get the Independent newspaper on a Saturday and in their holiday and travel reviews they usually have a oneliner about a carbon offset for the journey.
Thought I would dig a little bit further and understand it more. In a nutshell taking a flight has an environmental impact, on greenhouse gases and so on, so they are charties and organisations that you can donate to, in relation to the journey you have made. They then take the proceeds and fund environmental projects designed to tackle those issues. Add a Comment |

Angela got some strange candles over the weekend called Hopi Candles. You are suppoed to lie flat on your side, stick one in you ear and light it. Somehow it draws all the impurities from your ear. Yuk. Not sure how it works but the few web sites I have seen seem to suggest that it creates some kind of chimney effect, which stimulates the impurities to the surface, they either get drawn away in the vapours or deposit on the inside of the hollow candle. Very strange. She hasn't tried them yet, but we'll let you know. Thermal Auricular Therapy they call it. Add a Comment |

We have been using those disposable BBQs from the main supermarkets for a number of years now. Some are better than others. A friend had one from Morrisons which was da bomb. It lasted for ages, very hot and seemed to be made up of wood rather than charcoal type things. We have found that the Sainsbury seems to be the worst performers. Anyway, tonight we had a quick BBQ in the garden as the weather, for September, was nice enough to throw a few bits onto the fire. A bit of advice. Even if you do not plan to eat sausages, or were looking forward to having shellfish or something, I think it is worth making one or two sausage offerings to the gods, before putting your food on. I say this as I was trying to BBQ two large squids but because of the moisture inside the squid, it dripped onto the coals and made them virtually unusable. I had to start another one. However, when I popped a few Walls sausages on, the disposable BBQ came back to life. I reckon it all needs a bit of fat to be splashed around to kick off more of the coals.

Majestic Wines have just released their new newsletter for Autumn. Highlights are 20% off a range of South African, Spanish, Portugese and Argentinian wines. I'm tempted to go for a few bottles of the Lanson Gold Label 1997 vintage champagne. We received two cases of Gold Label as a wedding gift, which went left for a few more years turned into something fantastic. We only have the one bottle left which we will open on our 10th anniversary, so it makes a good excuse to stock up and stash away. Never been a big fan of their Black label so I keep clear of that one. For those into their Belgium Trappist beers, there is a Chimay multi-pack with a free glass.
