Curry King in Cambridge - bad, do not go

Bad Review
Bad Review
We at efnic.co.uk rarely like to give bad reviews.

However, sometimes you come across a place that you just need to warn others about.

Curry King in Cambridge is just one of those places.

They hassle you in trying to upsell extra side dishes, rice and nan, even though you have said several times that you are OK.

There was only two of us in the restaurant and when we started to eat our meal they turned the heating on. I asked them to turn it down and he laughed whilst doing so. My wife was only half way through her drink and suddenly it was do you want another one.

They added a "s/c" onto the bill for £4, which was for service charge that brough the meal up to just over £40. So more than 10%.

What a bunch of jokers.

I hope this restaurant truly becomes a casualty of the credit crunch and gets shut down for good.

Thumbs up for Waitrose Soups
Written by Administrator
Thursday, 12 February 2009

I think Waitrose are doing a special on their soups with two for just under £4,

I had the Moroccan Chicken and that was jam-packed full of large pieces of chicken, chickpeas, other veg and a slightly spicy and sweet soup base.

Very yummy and much better that the New Covent Garden ones which seem very, very ordinary.

Cooking with chocolate and chilli, go for it
Written by Administrator
Thursday, 18 December 2008

I made a steak and ale stew the other day and thought it needed a bit of a lift. I used Czech dark beer instead of ale which was a bit different for starters but to push the boundaries a bit further I put a few drops of Portugese chilli oil and some small bars of Ritter Sport chocolate in from good old Aldi.

The chilli kick and the smoothness of the chocolate worked really well.

Different indeed. They do it in Mexico I think!

Half price Montes Alpha at Tesco
Written by Administrator
Wednesday, 03 December 2008

Tesco are doing Montes Alpha Chardonnay and Cabernet Sauvignon at half price. £5 something for these beauties is something not to be missed.

Get there before it is all gone. I normally pay full price without quibble so finding them half price was so annoying and hence I had to buy a few up to stop anyone else taking advantage.

Baozi Inn, Chinatown

Baozi Inn

25 Newport Court, London WC2H 7JS. Tel: 020 7287 6877

Strange little place this restaurant. I sat down underneath a large photo of Chairman Mao. The seat was in the shape of what I assume is traditional wooden seats in rural china, like the ones bandied around during kung fu fight scenes in some ancient teahouse.

Anyway I digress.

The food was supposed to be provincial spicy Sichuan cuisine. I went for the spicy beef noodles along with a side dish of spinach and ginger juice. I was expecting just a small dish of spinach but it was a bit of a huge pile with nuts sprinkle on. I realy liked that.

The noddles I thought were a bit indifferent, not wildly spicy but then again I am probably thankful as I am sure that had it been the full Sichuan heat I might have been reeling.

What I should have done was to try one of the large steamed buns they had on the menu, as everybody else seemed to order them, especially those more efnic than I.

A review on Metro.
