Russell Brand is nuts!
TV/Radio
Written by Administrator
Wednesday, 07 November 2007

He is nuts in a very funny way. I can't believe that he has a show on Radio 2. I thought he would be more of a person for Radio 1 listeners, but then again he doesn't play much music and just rambles on for ages.

Compared to his current run of the Ponderland TV show on Channel 4 this is positively clean-mouthed. I am not sure whether the show is live or not on a Saturday night but he seems to be able to cut out the swearing but goes off at very strange tangents, like he does.

He went down this racism track on Saturday night and it was just funny.

Seems like someone might have taken offence from my little write up about Barn Under a Wandering Star.

Not sure what his beef is really. It was a really nice place and I thought I gave it a good write up.

Maybe he got a bit upset about being called Mr Tatoo Man. Hmmm, I'm sure I've been called a lot worse.

I guess the old saying of any press is good press.

Holidays

Acabanes is a large 4 bedroom converted farmhouse in a small village called Thenac near Bergerac. I stayed their in October and it was a fantastic place for a week. Large and roomy. Big kitchen and living areas, plus a heated pool as well.

You can read a holiday review of the surrounding area including a stay at the house: Gordon's holiday in France.

Jack's Bistro, who's Jack?
Restaurants

The North West of England is not the most glamorous part of the UK, especially near to Blackpool but we found a place to eat in St. Annes call Jack's Bistro that was very good.

It was a Monday night and no one else was there barring the staff and maybe a friend of theirs. My chicken livers came cooked to perfection. The duck breast was slightly overcooked. Certainly not medium but still OK. There is a good range of wines but I probably chose two that were a bit on the heavy side for what we were eating. I will know for next time.

Mrs T's Supper Room, Bournemouth
Restaurants

Mrs T's Supper Room in Westbourne, Bournemouth is probably the opposite end of efnic, more indij if you know what I mean.

Set in between the bingo hall and the Taj Mahal Indian restaurant, it is a step back in time as you walk through the door. Done out in very kitch red wallpaper and red velvety curtain material it is very, very different.

We went there for a friend's 50th birthday. We were the youngest there, by half!

Once seated, the staff will take your drinks orders and explain about the menu. You go up with your plate and help yourself to the hors d'oeuvres. Soup comes afterwards and accompanied by some tasty croutons. A bit of sorbet then helps to cleanse the palette.

Next, they will bring out each of the 3 main courses on offer and actually show you them. This happens from table to table. They are then sent back to the kitchen. You order what you would like and then they bring it out on a plate. When we went they had a great looking rack of pork, duck breasts and fish fillets in a prawn and mussel sauce.

La Tour des Vents, in Bergerac

La Tour Des Vents - Le Moulin de Malfourat, 24240 Monbazillac. tel: 05 5358 3010.

Angela's brother-in-law Matt had booked a nice restaurant for us during our stay in France. It was a place called La Tour Des Vents. Just up the road to Chateau Monbazillac by the water tower that you can see from the main road. It had great views over Bergerac and surrounding areas. They gave us a small round room by the entrance which suited us fine and kept our noisy lot from the rest of the diners as well.

The maitre'd was extremely helpful and charming. He basically read through and translated the entire menu for us. You have to be a patient person to do that to a bunch of tourists. After he left we did dare ask what such and such was. I think collectively we were able to piece things together.
