Bournemouth Restaurants review

Bournemouth is definitely getting better in the variety of restaurants and eateries it has in the area. Although it has the usual range of Italian, Indian and Chinese restaurants the older established ones are having to compete very hard now, and rightly so. Some were getting pretty stale anyway.

I'll give some of my highlights below.

I'm so glad there are sushi restaurants in Bournemouth as it was something I always used to crave for and only go my fix now and again when I ventured into London. There are several here now and I hope they have enough business to sustain them in the long term. It's a difficult choice but my favourite Japanese restaurant in Bournemouth is Tokyo Sushi however that has now closed since I first wrote this page. The only place to go is Funki Sushi, although they have gone more pan-asian now than Japanese centric.

For Italian food I have always liked La Strada. However in recent visits it hasn't quite hit the previous heights but is still recommended.

For authentic Chinese food in Bournemouth I would always recommend Oriental Garden. It may not be to everyone's tastes as it may be a bit too authentic for people expecting your bog-standard high street kind of Chinese but give it a try. I prefer Ocean Palace over The Mandarin if you want to go out for a standard Chinese meal with friends.

Hot Wok is an all-you-can-eat buffet place on Westover Road. Food isn't as good but when it comes to being able to stuff your face with a wide variety of dishes, including duck in pancakes, then you can't beat this place. The wine is nice and reasonably priced. Good to go in a group and you don't have many worries about splitting the bill and arguing over who ate what!

I've tried most of the Thai restaurants in Bournemouth but the one I have come to really like is Thai Smile. OK, that is in Boscombe, but at least it is near enough. Their green curry is just spot on.

As you can see there are many restaurants in Bournemouth to choose from.

I might give that Christchurch place a try but have you tried Ocean City as well?

I would like to comment on the Ocean palace . we used to go there in the old days for their really good sunday buffets etc. but as usual over the years their standars have dropped drematically, the buffet is very poor, the service is none existent and i think a customer service course would do everybody there a great deal of good.Until it changes changes its attitude i will continue to eat at the Golden place in Christchurch, where the staff even speak Japanese and the owner and staff are delite to speak to. The food is fantastic, Gods know where he got the chef from, perhaps the Ocean Palce should get one like him.
I recommend you don,t eat at the Ocean Palace until things get better.
I agree, this is a great place

Now that the bus stop just outside has moved, hopefully more people will get to see it and try it out.

Sounds like you like the place. Sounds like you might even work there! Just kidding.

Give them a try.

Thai Smile is THE BEST!! It is the ONLY restaurant my family visits simply because the owner is lovely, the price fantastic, (lunch price 6.95 for main and starter and 4.50 just for a main, try the ice coffee for just 1.75!!) and also, every restaurant I've tried in Bournemouth is pretty rubbish and expensive. I live in London and go out to eat every week, NO WHERE compares to Thai smile! (Try the Singapore noodles, pinapple rice, kari curry, green pancakes and banana fritters)
